  11. Here is a list of some important files and directories on this disc.

  13. setup.exe             Installation program for Windows (95/98/ME/NT & 3.1).

  15. utils\w32view.exe     File Browser for Windows 95/98, Windows NT, and Win32s.
  16. utils\w16view.exe     File Browser for Windows 3.1.
  17.  
  18. qrz.exe               The MSDOS callsign lookup program.  You can also run 
  19.                       this directly from the DOS prompt by switching to
  20.                       your CDROM drive and typing 'qrz'.
  21.  
  22. qrzhelp.txt           Help file for the MSDOS callsign program, qrz.exe.

  30. Quick Start Instructions:
  31.  
  32.   Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP:
  33.     You can install the program icons by selecting the "Start" menu and
  34.     choosing "Run".  At the Run box, type: "D:\setup",  assuming 'D' is
  35.     your CDROM drive.
  36.  
  37.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  38.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  39.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your CDROM drive.
  40.     This will install a group folder with icons for this CDROM.

  44. Installing QRZ To Run Entirely From Your Hard Disk Drive (OPTIONAL):
  45.  
  46.     The QRZ CDROM data files may be copied to your hard disk drive so
  47.     that you can use your CDROM drive for other purposes.  You will
  48.     need about 600 Megabytes of free disk space to copy the data.
  49.  
  50.     This edition includes a new command that will automatically
  51.     copy the CDROM data to your hard drive.  To use, simply use
  52.     My Computer to browse to your CDROM drive and double-click
  53.     on the program CDINST.BAT
  54.  
  55.     If you prefer to perform the copy manually, follow these steps:
  56.  
  57.     Suppose that you wish to copy the data to your C: drive, and that
  58.     your CDROM drive is the E: drive on your system.
  59.  
  60.     1. Use the Windows Explorer (My Computer) to open your C: drive
  61.        at the root (C:\) level.
  62.  
  63.     2. Open another Windows Explorer window into your E: (cdrom) drive.
  64.  
  65.     3. Use the mouse to drag the folder called CALLBK from the E: drive
  66.        to the C: drive.  This will initiate a copy operation.
  67.  
  68.     When the copying has finished, you may remove the CDROM from its
  69.     drive.  Verify that your C: drive now has a folder called CALLBK
  70.     The next time QRZ starts, it will find the C:\CALLBK folder and
  71.     use it for the database and pictures.

  73.     Note: The folder must be in the root of the hard disk drive (i.e.
  74.     C:\CALLBK).  The software will not find the data files if the folder
  75.     is placed elsewhere (like Program Files).

  80. Viewing The Disc With A Web Browser:
  81.  
  82. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  83. to explore the disc.  This method cannot be used to search for callsigns,
  84. but, you will be able to look at pictures, radio mods, and other files.

  86. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  87. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.

  91.   1. Click on "File"
  92.   2. Click on "Open File"
  93.   3. Choose your CDROM drive
  94.   4. Select the 00_index.htm file

  109. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  110. for Windows on the CDROM.  This program allows you to page through index
  111. files, browse through directories on the CD, view documentation and
  112. uncompress/install the program(s) you want onto your hard disk.

  116. More Email Addresses!

  118. Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of
  119. the most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere.  Over the past
  120. year, we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio
  121. operators from around the world.  Now, for the first time we are able
  122. to share them with you as a component of the main QRZ database.  There
  123. are over 209,000 e-mail addresses contained in the callsign database.
  124. The email addresses are displayed right along with the regular callsign
  125. data, whenever they are available.  You can make online updates to your

  133. Callsign Database Updates

  135. We now have listings from USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Austria,
  136. Mexico, UK, Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, Taiwan, the
  137. CIS (formerly the Soviet Union), and miscellaneous listings from
  138. everywhere.  Since the introduction of our online DX callsign
  139. registration form, we've begun to take on hundreds of new, exotic
  140. callsigns each month.  We're still looking for more DX callsign
  141. databases, and you could qualify for a free subscription to QRZ for
  142. helping us obtain more countries.  For more info contact the author

  148. While we strive to maintain the most accurate database available, it's 
  149. not always possible.  If some of your information is missing, incorrect

  162. Digital QSL Image Updates
  163.  
  164. Our digital QSL images have become so popular that the entire CDROM is
  165. now completely filled.  At present, the CD will hold about 14,000
  166. images in addition to the callsign database data.  Since our online
  167. collection contains some 25,000 images, we had to leave some of them
  168. out of this edition.  The newest images in our collection were the ones
  169. that we included on this CDROM.  We chose the oldest images because
  170. they have already been published on previous editions of the CDROM.
